About Project
This project was a 40,000 square feet, multi-storey, cast-in-place concrete structure with advanced climate control. It was constructed in the busy downtown core and required specialized safety and scheduling considerations. Consisting of two contrasting structures adjoined, a rectangular building housing book stacks, lounges and study places while also housing a gallery program and a circular structure which is more public in nature for a meeting place. The glass cube clerestory filters light down to the rotunda by day and becomes a “beacon” for the Library at night. The Belleville Public Library & Art Gallery is a centrepiece in the revitalization of Belleville’s downtown core.
